From the town of Stryn, drive east along Highway 15 for about 24.5km to Erdal and turn right where signs point to Erdalen (this turn will be almost directly across from the road signed for Hjelle). Follow the Erdalen road for about 2 1/4km to where the falls can be seen on the right side of the valley. There are not many places to pull off the road, so be aware of passing traffic (though it should be almost non existent as this is not a heavily traveled road).Erdalen, found near the very northern edge of the Jostedalsbreen plateau, is a stereotypical Norwegian valley; spectacular sheer cliffs rise up from lush farmlands along its floor, glaciers cling to the top of the mountains and streams cascade down from high above. What is so different about Erdalen is there are no tourists, and even more remarkable is that one of the tallest waterfalls in the Jostedalsbreen region is found just minutes from the nearby highway. As it flows away from its namesake glacier and a small lake, the stream Tundra cascades into Erdalen via a series of twisting, sliding horsetail-style falls which drop for a total of approximately 590 meters (1,935 feet) in height in perhaps a dozen distinct though very marginally segregated steps. Adjacent to the main fall is a secondary stream which veils down a much steeper portion of the valley wall for about three-quarters of the distance as the main fall. Unfortunately because the Erdalselva lies between the road through the valley and the base of the falls, approaching the falls more closely is not possible.
