In the city of Egilsstaðir, turn off Highway 1 on to Route 92 where signs point to Seyðisfjörður and Reyðarfjörður. Just under one kilometer later, turn left onto Route 94, then in another 1.7km right onto Route 93, all the while following signs to Seyðisfjörður. Once on Route 93, continue up and over the height of land and down toward Seyðisfjörður for another 23.2km, then turn right onto a road where a sign points to Fjardarsel. Find a parking area about 180m further down, then walk the rest of the road down to the old power house where the falls are visible behind. This waterfall is the final of apparently several dozen waterfalls found along the stream Fjarðará as it cascades down the head of Seyðisfjörður. The falls are situated just upstream of the historic Fjardarsel power station immediately outside the town of Seyðisfjörður itself, but are hidden from view from Route 93 as it descends down the valley from Egilsstaðir. The Fjardarsel hydroelectric plant below the falls is the oldest operating hydroelectric facility in Iceland, opening in 1913.
Though not terribly obvious at cursory glance, a trail runs along the length of the Fjarðará as it cascades down the head of the valley and passes literally dozens of waterfalls along the way - a trail sign we encountered suggested there were 26 distinct waterfalls along the trail. The majority of these waterfalls are not officially named, and cannot be easily accessed from the road on the opposite side of the creek (despite being visible from it) due to the lack of room to pull off - this waterfalls is one of the few exceptions (Gufufoss being another). Though we didn't see where the trail ends, a bridge spanning the stream adjacent to the powerhouse below the falls may serve as access to the trail as it runs up the valley opposite the road (be wary of private residence in the area however).Though most of the waterfalls along the Fjarðará are not terribly large or stand out on their own, this is one of the larger and more noteworthy waterfalls along the stream. We have been rather surprised to have found no indication that it holds a recognized or even colloquial name of any sort (or if it does, it isn't well publicized on the internet).
