Name of Waterfall

Upper Blum Lakes Falls

Description

Between Middle and Upper Blum Lakes the beginning of Blum Creek cascades down a huge headwall, dropping about 200 feet over a steep horsetail style waterfall before tumbling an additional 300 feet down a steep boulder field and into the lake below. A smaller, less impressive upper tier which cascades about 75 feet down smooth slabs of granite also exists immediately above a small pond at the top of the main drop of the falls A smaller tributary stream descending directly from the southwest face of Mount Blum also cascades down the same headwall step. Unfortunately the falls emanating from Upper Blum Lake cannot be seen from the vicinity of the outlet of Middle Blum Lake where the climbers trail passes. When we attempted to survey the falls in September of 2012 we were not able to find a location along the shore of the lake which allowed a view of the falls, which seems to indicate it to be fairly heavily recessed into the cliff face. The best option for seeing this waterfall from below would likely be to traverse counterclockwise around Middle Blum Lake and then ascend the large boulder field at the east end of the lake to the base of the falls.
