Upper French Cabin Falls
The final mile of French Cabin Creek's length is spent plunging over 1000 feet down one of the most impressive canyons in the Cascades. There are no less than 4 major waterfalls throughout, as well as an uncountable number of small slides and cascades. This is all, unfortunately, not well known to the public, though for lack of trying. There are several ATV trails in the area which skirt the rim of the canyon, but never penetrate to good viewpoints, and there is a good reason for this. The canyon walls are quite crumbly, and are lined with talus slopes and small, often naturally slick plant life, which combines for a very perilous location. As far as the waterfalls go, this appeared to be the easiest to see, and I believe is the tallest fall along the creek, dropping somewhere between 80 and 100 feet, 100 feet being a liberal estimate. The viewpoint I found was perched a good 250 feet straight above the canyon floor, and allowed views down on the falls, but at a distance that it was not easy to achieve a proper estimate for the falls' height. I've read accounts that corroborate my estimate of 80 feet, however, so I'm going with that. Now, just because this was the easiest of the waterfalls to see, doesn't necessarily mean I'm encouraging anyone to visit it. Quite the opposite, in fact. Unless you are very comfortable with scrambling along exposed, crumbly slopes, and don't have issues with heights, I highly discourage anyone from visiting this waterfall due to the potential for personal injury (and chances are, if you fall here, you're not gonna go home).
