About This Waterfall

Upper Straight Creek Falls is a significant fall along its namesake creek which drops 52 feet in a single leap, veiling outward over a somewhat dome-shaped ledge into a small basin lined with a rocky beach. When surveyed in early July the falls were approximately 35 feet in width with the water spread out fairly evenly across its face. Later in the season the stream is likely to consolidate into a much narrower channel and may revert to a width of perhaps less than 10 feet. Straight Creek drains from a basin encompassing approximately 2.7 square miles above this waterfall, rising to elevations of over 5,000 feet. The basin typically receives fairly heavy winter snowpack and as a result the stream will flow forcefully through the early summer, then revert to a much smaller flow by the beginning of September, but will retain a flow year round. There are likely at least two more significant waterfalls along Straight Creek upstream from this fall, so it may be appropriate to change the name of this fall at some point.
