About This Waterfall
The falls can be found on the east side of the E6 just over 29km south of the junction of Highway 70 and the E6 in Oppdal. There are large pull offs on the east side of the road on either side of the stream below the falls.Vaartifossen is a multi-stepped waterfall totaling about 160 meters (525 feet) in height which flumes down into a narrow slot canyon adjacent to the E6 as it climbs up to traverse the Døvrefjell plateau south of the town of Oppdal. The falls cascade down the head of the gorge at an angle not visible from the road, so only about 60 meters of the fall can be seen from the road. The falls appear to consist of at least ten distinct steps, possibly as many as a dozen, but again due to the obstructed view from the road only five or six can be easily viewed.Photographs dating back to the early 20th century label this waterfall as Vaartifossen, though this name does not seem to be used frequently. More colloquially the falls may simply be known as Vårstigfossen.
