About This Waterfall
The dam which impounds Ringedalsvatnet (beyond its natural size) was constructed directly on top of Vassendefossen between 1909-1918. The falls appear to be physically intact, but the original powerhouse associated with the dam now sits in the old riverbed below the falls. Because of the high capacity of the Tysso hydroelectric system the falls rarely ever flow, and when the spillway at the dam is open, it only flows down a small part of what was originally a very broad and powerful waterfall.
