About This Waterfall
Wallaman Falls among the most significant waterfalls in Australia which haven't been impacted by hydroelectric development. Sometimes the falls are erroneously cited as Australia's tallest waterfall, and while this is not true, it is likely the tallest single drop waterfall, and the tallest free-falling waterfall in the country. In any case, Stony Creek, a tributary of the Herbert River, meanders through a rainforest plateau before making a dramatic plunge 268 meters (879 feet) off an escarpment in the Seaview range into a deep green gorge. Some sources have suggested the falls height to be as much as 340 meters (1,115 feet), this is however inaccurate and likely stems from surveying Stony Creek for potential hydroelectric development prior to the falls becoming protected within the Girringun National Park in 1994.
