About This Waterfall
Take US Route 220 south from Towanda to the town of Monroe, then continue about 1.2 miles further south from Monroe on Route 220 to Wickham Falls Road. Turn left onto Wickham Falls Road and go another quarter of a mile and park on the right side of the road. The top of the falls will be visible through the trees to the right but scrambling to its base is not advised from this location, as the slopes are treacherously steep.Wickham Falls is a surprisingly significant waterfall found along an unnamed stream just outside of the hamlet of Monroe. The falls drop over two substantial ledges, with potentially one or two more smaller ledges a short distance downstream. The uppermost tier of the falls is a sheer freefall, while the second is more of a staircase type cascade. When we attempted to survey the falls in May of 2018 we were stymied by a lack of daylight, and in turn were not able to measure the falls, but rough eyeballing of the two main drops suggest the falls stand at least 50 feet in height. It's possibly - very likely even - that Wickham Falls is situated entirely on private property. Upon our visit in May of 2018 we didn't see any immediate evidence of Posted or No Trespassing signs, so at least at cursory glance there didn't seem to be any restriction of public access. Should you encounter such signs however, please be respectful of the landowner's rights and do not attempt to visit the falls. The stream which produces Wickham Falls drains from a basin covering approximately 4.7 square miles, and includes a number of small ponds but no sources of standing water of any consequence. Given the lack of reliable sources of runoff regulation, we suspect this stream will likely exhibit highly seasonal qualities and will likely be reduced to just a trickle during the summer months without being replenished by prolonged precipitation.
