About This Waterfall

Wollomombi Falls is often cited as one of the tallest waterfalls in Australia. Citations of its height range from as little as 100 meters (330 feet), which is a severe underestimate, up to as much as 470 meters (1,540 feet), which is a vast overshoot. Signs within Oxley Wild Rivers National Park apparently cite the falls as 260 meters in height, and this is the most common figure associated with references to the falls. The 1:25000 scale New South Wales Topographic maps suggest the elevation change between the top of the falls and the confluence with the Chandler River is a bit less than that even - approximately 240 meters. Assuming another 10-20 or meters of elevation change occurs between the base of Wollomombi Falls and the confluence, so a true height of about 220-230 meters for the falls seems likely.Name of the falls and river is an aboriginal word meaning "meeting of the waters", likely a reference to the confluence of the Wollomombi and Chandler Rivers just below the falls.
