About This Spring

## Overview Belknap Hot Springs is a beloved hot springs resort nestled along the McKenzie River in the Cascade Range of central Oregon, just east of the small community of McKenzie Bridge. Located at an elevation of roughly 1,700 feet and surrounded by towering Douglas fir and old-growth forest, the resort sits at the confluence of geothermal activity and one of Oregon's most scenic river corridors. The springs themselves emerge from the earth at temperatures reported to be around 196°F (91°C) before being cooled and channeled into two soaking pools. The mineral-rich water — long valued by visitors for its warmth and soothing qualities — feeds both an upper pool and a lower pool, each maintained at comfortable soaking temperatures. The resort has operated as a destination for hot-spring enthusiasts since the late 1800s, making it one of the longest-running hot springs retreats in the Pacific Northwest. Belknap Hot Springs is open year-round and offers a range of accommodations, from lodge rooms and cabins to mountain homes and RV/tent camping sites. The lush, well-tended gardens surrounding the pools add to the tranquil atmosphere, and the McKenzie River Trail — one of Oregon's premier hiking and mountain biking routes — passes nearby. ## Directions 1. From Eugene, Oregon, head east on OR-126 (McKenzie Highway) toward McKenzie Bridge. The drive is approximately 60 miles and takes about one hour. 2. Continue through the town of McKenzie Bridge. 3. The **McKenzie River National Recreation Trail** is a world-class route for hiking and mountain biking, with sections passing close to the resort. The McKenzie River itself is renowned for fly fishing, whitewater rafting, and kayaking. In winter, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are popular in the nearby Cascade high country. After a day of adventure, few things compare to slipping into the warm mineral waters at Belknap. ### The Gardens The resort's beautifully maintained gardens are a highlight in their own right.
