About This Waterfall
Bouck Falls is located about 3 1/2 miles east of Newhalem along US 20, within North Cascades National Park. The falls can be seen from Highway 20 near the short tunnel between Gorge and Ketchum Creeks. There are a few small pullouts in the area where one can pause and look at small sections of the falls.Bouck Falls can be seen leaping from ledge to ledge as one drives past along Highway 20 near Gorge Lake. The whole series of falls might total 2000 feet, possibly more, but they are so difficult to see in entirety, that the true magnitude may never be known. What can be seen appears to drop somewhere around 1000 feet, depending on how high up the mountainside the bedrock contact extends. The base of the falls can quite easily be accessed by kayak or canoe on Gorge Lake. The falls are best seen from Highway 20 at turn outs just west of the tunnel near Ketchum Creek. Because high tension lines block the falls from most roadside angles and this one is hard to see more than a fraction of in the first place, I don't recommend anything more than a glance out the car window when passing by.
