About This Waterfall

Ketchum Creek Falls is located about 4 miles east of Newhalem along US 20, within North Cascades National Park. The falls can be seen easily from the side of US 20, but the falls creep up on unassuming drivers quickly, so if you're looking for this waterfall, be prepared to pull over, and keep a sharp eye out. There is a large turnout on the south side of the road, so that can be a tell of sorts that the falls are near. This is a very nice waterfall, which doesn't often receive the recognition it deserves. Of all the waterfalls seen along the North Cascades Highway, this is probably the easiest to see. You don't even need to get out of your car to enjoy it (though it does help). Small Ketchum Creek (also known as Davis Creek) drops 161 feet (+/- about 5 feet, hard to get an exact measurement when looking up) over a recessed wall, before cascading down a steep boulder pile, and passing beneath Highway 20. Depending on the amount of water flowing over the falls, it often appears larger than it really is. Thanks to recent flooding in the area, Ketchum Creek has scoured away excessive gravel and talus debris around the base of the falls, which appears to have increased it's height by a few feet (not counting the cascades below). Reaching the bottom of the falls is possible, but, it's probably more difficult than prior to the floods of October 2003.The falls and creek have at times been referred to as Davis Creek and Davis Creek Falls.
