About This Waterfall
Located off the Suiattle River Road, between Rockport and Darrington. Drive north from Darrington for 6 ½ miles, or south from Rockport for 12 miles, to Suiattle River Road #26. Follow Road 26 for four and a half miles to a gated gravel road bearing left and park. Walk (or drive if the gate is open) along the gated road for one quarter of a mile then head right where the road forks. Follow the right fork for another third of a mile to the third stream crossing. The falls are located about 200 feet upstream from the road at this point and are most easily accessed and viewed from the east (right) side of the stream.Numerous waterfalls can be found cascading down the southern flank of Suiattle Mountain, some more well known than others. Of the lesser known entries is Bryson Falls, a stunning, almost fountain-like waterfall which stairsteps down a gully for 137 feet in eight total tiers - 18, 21, 17, 37, 17, 6, 8 and 13 feet respectively - with a disconnected ninth drop just a short distance downstream. That the falls are broken up into so many steps makes it look quite a big less significant than it is, but from viewpoints along the rim of the gully the scale of the whole formation becomes apparent. The name of the falls is a colloquial title for the Bryson family, one of the early settlers of the Darrington area. How far back this name dates is not known, but it seems to be an accepted title among residents in the Darrington area.
