About This Waterfall
Careno Falls is located next to the Snow Creek Trailhead in the Icicle Creek Valley near Leavenworth. Turn south off of Highway 2 on to Icicle Road at the west end of Leavenworth and follow the road for 4 1/4 miles to the parking lot for the Snow Creek Trail. The falls are across the road and uphill.Careno Falls occurs along a seasonal tributary of Icicle Creek, and is visible from near the Snow Creek Trailhead when flowing. Scrambling to the base of the falls is possible but steep. Those looking for a more accessible, more revealing view of the falls can see it easily from about 1/3 of a mile up the Snow Creek Trail. The falls have a very small drainage area and dry out by July in most years. This waterfall is apparently a popular location for ice climbing.I don't know the origin of the name of the waterfall, but I believe it was given by members of the ice climbing community. Further clarification would be appreciated.
