About This Waterfall

Cascade Falls is a modest fall of about 10 to 15 feet where the headwaters of the North Fork of the Virgin River emerge from a cave and plunge to a talus slope below. The stream is a subterranean outlet for nearby Navajo Lake, but as Navajo Lake serves as a reclamation project, the amount of water draining into the cave system which feeds to Cascade Falls is regulated. During periods of low precipitation, a low earthen dam prevents water from draining into the sinkhole which feeds the falls. When the lake is full, the small dam is completely submerged and the lake is allowed to drain naturally through the sink.
