About This Waterfall
From Mission, take the Lougheed Highway east to Sylvester Road. Turn north onto Sylvester Road and proceed 14 km and turn right onto Ridgeview Road and follow to its end at the parking area. The trail climbs to the viewpoint in about 10 minutes.Cascade Falls is a multi-tiered waterfall found where Cascade Creek plunges down a hanging valley into the broad Stave Lake basin and valley. According to the Fraser Valley Regional District, the falls drop a total of 150 feet (46 meters), but other accounts have the height at 167 feet, though whether the falls have even been accurately measured is in question (the World Waterfall Database has not yet been able to measure the falls). What we do know, thanks to some thrill-seeking kayakers who paddled over the falls in 2008, is the upper drop falls for 112 feet into its pool. The lower tiers appear to be in the realm of 50-60 feet, so a total height of 167 feet is quite believable. Unfortunately, while both sets of falls were at one time accessible, as of 2004 the trail system had been rebuilt in such a way that the viewpoint of the lower tiers of the falls has been fenced off and is not accessible any longer. The Fraser Valley Regional District, who manages the park, has apparently done so out of liability concerns because the falls have been known to attract local partiers. The upper tier of the falls was featured in the 2009 movie "Jennifer's Body" in which it was known as Devil's Well, for which a computer generated sink hole was imposed in the creek bed, showing the stream disappearing underground entirely.
