About This Waterfall
Davis Mountain Falls is located about halfway between Packwood and Randle. After flood damage in 2003, access to the falls became slightly less convenient when traveling either direction on Highway 12, but is nonetheless easy to access. Take Highway 12 about ten miles west of Packwood, or six miles east of Randle, and bear north onto Davis Creek Road. Follow the paved road to its end at the barricaded site of the former bridge over Davis Creek, destroyed in the floods of 2003. From here, turn hard left onto NFR #63 - also called Davis Creek Road, and proceed for another 2.8 miles to where the falls can be seen next to the road. While Davis Creek itself harbors a fairly powerful waterfall, it is unfortunately very much inaccessible due to the shape of its impressive canyon. Not all is lost in the drainage however, as an unnamed tributary stream which drains from the southwest side of Davis Mountain produces this exceptionally scenic 111-foot tall waterfall right next to the Davis Creek Road. The falls are situated in a dark grotto with moss coating the cliffs from tip to toe, and were it not for a pair of trees guarding the stream like stoic sentinels, the falls would be entirely unobstructed from view right from the road itself. Upon re-visiting the falls in May of 2014 we encountered a fairly significant landslide blocking Davis Creek Road just before the falls are encountered. The road up to this point is in fine shape, but travel beyond is currently not possible by car, and access to the falls is not impacted at all.
