About This Waterfall
Triple Falls are accessed from Dolly Copp Road, which runs between Highway 2 and Route 16 a few miles southeast of Gorham. From Gorham, follow Route 16 south for 4.4 miles, then turn right onto Dolly Copp Road, then continue another 2.75 miles from Route 16 to the small bridge spanning Townline Brook and park. From Highway 2 in Randolph, its 1.7 miles along Dolly Copp Road to the bridge on Townline Brook. Look for a small sign indicating Triple Falls, and follow the trail upstream for about 500 feet to the base of Proteus Falls, then continue climbing up a short distance further to where Erebus Falls is visible.Erebus Falls is the nicest and most significant of the trifecta of waterfalls along Townline Brook which collectively are known as Triple Falls, though despite this label each waterfall is named individually. The falls stand about 25 feet tall as Townline Brook slides across a smooth block of bedrock and veils in a scenic curtain, striking onto a gradually inclined ramp at its foot before forming a small pool below. This waterfall is considerably more visible and accessible than Proteus Falls located a short distance downstream, and as such is usually thought of as the primary section of Triple Falls.Erebus Falls is one of three distinct waterfalls which makes up a collective known as Triple Falls, though hikers following the Townline Brook Trail may notice that each individual waterfall is called out by name as well.
