About This Waterfall
Without going off-trail and performing some hairy stream fords or crossings of glaciers, the best place to view Fall of the Waves is from about 10 meters to the south of the Twin Falls Creek bridge along the Marpole Lake trail in upper Yoho Valley (see Twin Falls below for directions).Yoho Valley contains dozens of major waterfalls, some much more impressive than others, but all worthy of attention. Two of the lesser known falls in the area occur on Waves Creek near the toe of the Yoho Glacier. Diableret Falls occurs a moderate distance up the side valley, out of view from most areas but near its base. Fall of the Waves, however, is much more visible as Waves Creek belches out of a slot canyon and onto a morainal outwash plain. Like several other falls in the area (Laughing and Marpole Falls in particular), Waves Creek has cut a rather sinuous looking gorge as it drops over the lip of the hanging valley, cascading in what are likely a series of falls totaling maybe as much as 100 meters. However, from across the valley, only the final plunge - of probably not more than 120 feet (though its hard to tell from distance) - is visible.
