Description

The bottom of Marpole Falls is passed about 7km from the trailhead en route to Twin Falls via the Yoho Valley trail. The uppermost part of the falls can be seen below the bridge across Twin Falls Creek near the Twin Falls Chalet about 8.5km from the trailhead. See Twin Falls (link below) for more.Shortly after hurtling over Twin Falls, Twin Falls Creek cascades down a sinuous box canyon in a series of much smaller waterfalls that many visitors to this end of Yoho Valley overlook. Because the Twin Falls trail largely avoids the gorge, it’s not easy to see most of the falls, but the top and bottom portions can be easily seen from just feet off of the Marpole Lake Trail and the Twin Falls Trail respectively.
The falls begin where Twin Falls Creek drops over two falls immediately below the bridge adjacent to the Twin Falls Chalet, falling about 60 feet in all. The stream then twists around the corner and out of sight from above. Those hiking to Twin Falls along the valley trail will pass the base of the falls where the creek thunders out of the mouth of the narrowest part of the gorge in a series of falls dropping another 50 to 60 feet. Watching the full volume of Twin Falls Creek - which during the summer months should be much more fittingly dubbed a river - squeezing out of a slot canyon no more than 5 feet wide in places allows one to truly appreciate the power of water. This waterfall is not thought to have ever been graced with an official title, so we have suggested naming it for nearby Marpole Lake which is found near the top of the falls.
