No Information available.As the Nelson and Ape Glaciers slowly regrow after being vaporized by the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens, the volume of the West Fork of Smith Creek will slowly increase, transforming this delicate stairstepping waterfall into a legitimate powerhouse of the Mount St. Helens region. The falls crash off the Plains of Abraham, dropping 600 feet over the first step of the valley, followed by another step of almost 400 feet about 1/5th of a mile downstream. The falls can be distantly seen from the various viewpoints along the road to Windy Ridge in the Monument, but close access is currently not advised.Since the falls occur immediately below the Plains of Abraham, I felt the play on the name suited the location well. No historical name for this waterfall is know to have existed. It is possible the falls were formed as a result of the 1980 eruption.
