Fletcher Falls
Drive south of Barlow Pass for about 3 miles, stopping just south of the Elliott Creek bridge. Park on the side of the road. The falls will be behind you across the valley. If you're traveling south from Darrington, you'll see the falls without a problem, but northbound travelers are disadvantaged due to the angle of descent.Literally from the sky to ground, this stream is one giant waterfall. It's very hard to tell the height of the falls, probably well over 1000 feet, but since only distant views are possible it may be a while before the true height is known (this one is well out of range of my rangefinder). A higher rating is in order if there ever turns out to be a closer view. It appears that during one of the winters that the Mountain Loop Highway was closed, a substantial avalanche tore down the lower part of this drainage and exposed the bottom part of the canyon, so it may be possible to approach the base of the falls if a route across the Sauk River can be found. These falls have no official name, so I've named it for Louis C. Fletcher, who, according to Harry Majors' book "The Monte Cristo Area", in 1897 made the first recorded climb of Twin Peaks - the source of the stream feeding the falls.
