About This Spring
## Overview Givens Hot Springs is a historic geothermal hot spring located in Owyhee County, Idaho, roughly 45 miles southeast of Boise along the Snake River. The springs have been a beloved gathering place for well over a century — they were first developed in the 1880s by Milford Givens, who homesteaded the land and recognized the potential of the naturally heated water bubbling up from deep underground. The site has operated as a public swimming and soaking destination almost continuously since that era, making it one of the longest-running hot springs resorts in the state. The geothermal water at Givens Hot Springs emerges at temperatures reported to be around 120°F (49°C) before being channeled into a large indoor swimming pool and smaller soaking areas, where it is cooled to comfortable bathing temperatures. The mineral-rich water has historically been valued by visitors for its warmth and soothing qualities. The springs sit in the arid, sagebrush-covered landscape of southwestern Idaho's high desert, with views of the surrounding Owyhee foothills and the Snake River corridor. Over the decades, Givens Hot Springs has served as a community hub for locals and a destination for travelers exploring Idaho's backcountry. The property has traditionally offered swimming, picnicking, and a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. It remains one of the more accessible natural hot springs experiences in the Boise region, requiring no hiking or backcountry travel to reach. ## Directions 1. Visitors can expect a large indoor pool filled with naturally heated geothermal water, along with grassy picnic areas and a relaxed, rustic atmosphere. The surrounding landscape is classic southwestern Idaho high desert — wide open skies, sagebrush flats, and rolling brown hills. The facility has historically been privately operated, so hours, admission fees, and available amenities may vary by season. It is advisable to check current operating status before making the trip, as ownership and management have changed hands over the years. Cell phone service can be limited in this area. The Snake River is nearby, and the drive out to the springs is scenic in its own right, passing through some of Idaho's quieter agricultural and rangeland country. Summer is the busiest season, but the hot springs can be especially enjoyable during cooler months when the contrast between the warm water and crisp desert air is at its best.
