About This Waterfall
Heather Creek Falls is a tantalizing but very deceiving waterfall found just upstream of where the creek flows under the old Monte Cristo Grade Road opposite the Stilliguamish River from the campgrounds in Verlot. Viewed from the road, the falls seem to be some distance back in the woods, and appear to be a large set of cascades falling a considerable distance down the hillside. In reality the falls are much closer to the road, and much smaller than first impressions lead on. Only about 200 linear feet back from the road, Heather Creek Falls drops a total of 52 feet in two sections; a pretty sliding cascade of 38 feet, followed by a much steeper veiling fall of 16 feet. A portion of the creek splits off into a second channel during periods of higher flow, but without fording the creek and smashing through quite a bit of brush views are limited (and likely not worth the effort anyway). Unfortunately due to a very inconveniently placed grove of trees growing right in front of the falls, there is no way to achieve an unobstructed view of the entire falls - rather one must settle for clear vistas of either tier individually.
