About This Waterfall

Heaven and Hell Falls is located about 6 miles northwest of Stevenson along Rock Creek Road. Take Highway 14 one mile west of Stevenson to Rock Creek Drive (also signed as Second Street or Foster Creek Road in some places) and turn north, passing the Skamania Lodge and Resort (use this as a landmark for the proper turnoff). In ¾ mile, turn left onto Ryan Allen Road. Follow this road for about a mile, then turn left onto Red Bluff Road, which eventually becomes Rock Creek Road. Follow this gravel road - usually in good condition pothole wise - for 5.8 miles (staying left where a road drops to the right about 2 ½ miles in). Watch for the falls on the left, about 1/3 of a mile after the bridge crossing Rock Creek at Steep Creek Falls, and a path leading 100 feet to a campsite at the top of the falls shortly after.Heaven and Hell Falls is the uppermost waterfall along Rock Creek which can be accessed with notable ease. The falls occur where the creek squeezes through a small cleft then bounces 26 feet over a rounded ledge and runs into what appears to be an ever-sliding canyon wall. Depending on the volume of water in Rock Creek, the falls may stretch to 50 feet or more wide, but due to the shape of the gorge below the falls, viewing the falls at higher flows may not be possible. The falls were named by kayakers who first ran Rock Creek as a descriptive of the fun factor of the drop. The small flume drop at the top of the falls certainly would be the "hell" part of the pairing.
