About This Waterfall
The upper Rock Creek basin harbors a significant number of waterfalls thanks to the prolific amount of basalt in the area, but many of them are quite difficult to access. The significant but unnamed stream which drains the northeast side of Three Corner Rock harbors three major waterfalls in quick succession and get progressively taller as one heads upstream. The uppermost of the three falls actually consists of two distinct waterfalls along entirely separate streams which plunge side-by-side into the same amphitheater - the left segment plunges 94 feet in a sheer free-fall, and the right segment drops 90 feet through a notch in the cliff before veiling outward ever so slightly. A small 10-foot tall cascade can also be found about 200 feet downstream from the main falls, though viewing it clearly is difficult. The unnamed stream which produces the falls is considerably more significant than it appears on maps, which bodes well for those who wish to visit the falls during the summer months and not just see a trickle of water. However, as the water is split between the two falls, the volume of both is reduced compared to the Middle falls a short distance downstream. The falls on the right side are the more voluminous of the two, and the left-side falls may in fact be reduced literally to a dribbling cliff in the late summer. That said, as the journey to the falls involves several potential stream fords in order to take the path of least resistance, expect to encounter pools potentially up to thigh deep when hiking to the falls (though for the most part the deepest water can be avoided).Because the stream has no known name, we've chosen to call its falls after Three Corner Rock from which it drains. This name has perhaps a serendipitous secondary meaning as well, as the stream makes three sharp turns in between and below each of the three falls in the canyon.
