About This Waterfall

Located in the Sweet Creek Falls trail complex, south of Mapleton, in the Siuslaw National Forest. From Mapleton, follow Highway 126 east, across the Siuslaw River, and turn right onto Sweet Creek Road. Drive 11 miles along the Sweet Creek Road to the Homestead (Sweet Creek) Trailhead. The lower tier of the falls can be seen from the trailhead. Clear views are had 100 feet along the trail. The second tier can be seen 30 feet further on, and the upper tier another 100 feet along. The Sweet Creek trail is branded as passing 11 waterfalls ranging from 5-75 feet tall. However, since I have a requirement that any waterfalls included in this database must be at leas 15 feet tall (unless historically named), I can't include several of the falls along the trail. So, in the tradition of Dutchman Falls, along Multnomah Creek in the Columbia Gorge, I've grouped the first three waterfalls on Sweet Creek together, and considered them one waterfall. These three falls, dropping 10 feet, 5 feet and 8 feet respectively, occur within 100 feet of one another, so it's not really a stretch to list them collectively. The first fall drops 10 feet over a wide ledge (pictured above), then shortly after slides down the 5 foot second tier. The creek makes a sharp "s" turn, then drops over the final tier, a wide 8 foot tall ledge that can be seen from the parking lot.The falls are located near the Homestead Trailhead along the Sweet Creek Trail, after which I have applied the name.
