About This Waterfall
Take Route 60 south from Stryn to the small town of Olden and make a left onto Route 724 immediately before crossing the river (note, a new road was being built when we visited, so expect directions to change in the future), watching for signs pointing to Briksdalsbreen and Oldevatnet. Drive for 17.7km and watch for a road branching to the left and heading across the valley (Rustøyfossen will be situated almost directly across the valley adjacent to the road). The falls will be visible from here, but driving down the aforementioned road will allow a closer approach (the parking situation closer to the falls is not known, but is likely to be very restricted as farms occupy the surrounding land.Kvamsfossen is the second major waterfall which will be seen on the far side of Oldedalen as one drives up the valley from Olden towards the Briksdal Glacier and Jostedalsbreen National Park. This waterfall steps down the side of the valley above the inlet to Oldevatnet and as such can be more closely approached (we did not have time to do so when surveying the falls in June 2011). The falls drop approximately 275 meters over a run of about 360 meters, and consist of 8-10 distinct individual tiers ranging in height from 5 to 75 meters in height, the majority of the fall accounted for in four drops of 75, 32, 47, and 51 meters.
