About This Waterfall
Lower Sattler Falls is a series of steep cascading type waterfalls along an unnamed stream which drains a narrow basin on the northeast flank of Ruby Mountain, entering the Ruby Arm of Ross Lake between Lillian and Panther Creeks. The falls drop for approximately 120 feet in at least five distinct steps, over a linear run of approximately 390 feet in a narrow gorge just above the stream's confluence with Ruby Arm. Due to the shape of the gorge and the steep surrounding terrain, exact measurements have thus far proven to be difficult to obtain. At least three distinct steps in the series have a drop of 15-20 feet, while the final drop was confirmed to measured 19 feet in height. The stream producing this waterfall drains from a narrow basin on the northeastern flank of Ruby Mountain, but unlike neighboring Lillian Creek it doesn't reach up to the summit of the mountain and there is no permanent snow or ice contributing to the flow of the watercourse, so it typically has a lower volume. The flow present will be healthy during the spring and early summer melt season, but by late August or early September the volume is typically reduced considerably and may in drought years become just a trickle.
