About This Waterfall
Terrill Gorge is a half-mile long canyon along Kenfield Brook, featureing walls that rises as high as 100 feet straight out of the stream in places. At both the upper and lower ends of the gorge are small but scenic waterfalls. Lower Terrill Gorge Falls is the smaller, but arguably the more scenic of the two. The falls drop sideways over a ledge for 8 feet, fanning out across a small rock apron before spilling into a large pool that serves as a popular swimming hole for locals. There is no properly developed access to this waterfall, nor any other part of Terrill Gorge. The falls and surrounding land are entirely privately owned, but the landowner has thus far been gracious in allowing public access. Please heed any No Trespassing or Posted signs you may come across however. Kenfield Brook is a moderately sized stream, draining a basin which covers approximately 12 square miles. The falls don’t need a lot of water to appear scenic, and they will certainly appear more impressive during periods of heavy flow, but as the basin is fairly large the flow in the stream should be expect to be adequate all year long. That said, it is necessary to ford Kenfield Brook at least once in order to access the falls, and the water can be shin to knee deep even in the summer, so exercise appropriate caution when doing so.
