About This Waterfall
The falls are on the Lamoille River upstream from the Depot Street Bridge in Morrisville. The Lamoille River drops over a dam, rounds a bend and loses about 15 feet in elevation over 600 foot run of river in a series of short rocky ledges. In flood, this is a burly rapids, in low water (as indicated in the photo) this is a long rocky riverbed with a few uninteresting drops and ledges. At various points in Morrisville's history, the falls have been home to a couple of mills, prior to the hydroelectric development seen today. E.B. Reed converted an existing woolen mill into a planing mill, the ownership of which was transferred in 1867. N. L. Manning owned a multi-purpose mill...a grist mill, saw mill, and carding mill. The grist mill operated three sets of millstones, and the sawmill could process over 100,000 feet of lumber yearly. In addition to the mills, the water powered machinery for the manufacture of chair stock.
