About This Waterfall

The unnamed stream this waterfall occurs along crosses the Icefields Parkway 16.5 kilometers south of Columbia Icefields Center. Park in a turnout about a hundred feet up the hill and walk towards the creek, then enter the woods just as the falls are visible through the trees. Game trails lead quickly to viewpoints.Mistashu Falls is a small waterfall along an unnamed stream draining from two glaciers to the north of the Cirrus Mountain complex in the Big Bend area of the Icefields Parkway in Banff National Park. The falls drop 51 feet in two distinct steps of 32 and 19 feet. Additional tiers, at least one of which looks to be at least twice as large, are known to exist upstream though we are unsure whether they can be considered part of the same waterfall. Surprisingly the stream along which this waterfall occurs doesn't appear to have a name despite its origin in two substantial glaciers which sustain its consistent volume throughout the year. There is a good chance there are additional waterfalls further upstream in the drainage as well.We haven't been able to find documented names for the stream, the falls, the two glaciers feeding the falls nor any of the surrounding peaks (save for Cirrus Mountain, which doesn't actually touch this basin). We heard mention from an unreliable source that this waterfall is known among the local ice climbing community as Mistashu, so we are running with that name until we can confirm otherwise.
