About This Waterfall
From Highway 19 in Campbell River, follow Highway 28 west for 5km to the signed turn off to Elk Falls Park (do not turn at the campground). Follow this road across a bridge spanning three massive penstocks, and go right at the park entrance sign. Park and follow the trail leading upstream for a short distance, then branch right at the sign for the Elk Falls viewpoint. When you reach the first junction, turn left and follow the trail for about 600m to where the falls are visible across a large lagoon.Moose Falls is the uppermost of the three waterfalls found within Elk Falls Provincial Park near Campbell River on Vancouver Island. The falls occur immediately below the John Hart Dam, which regulates the flow of the Campbell River such that there is always water running over the falls but very rarely the volume seen before the construction of the dam. The falls drop a total of about 40 feet. The water spilling from the open gates of the dam can be seen behind the natural falls spilling an additional 20-25 feet down what was the wall of the gorge prior to the river being diverted.
