About This Waterfall

North Swiftcurrent Glacier Falls drains from the small basin on the east flank of Swiftcurrent Mountain which harbors the remnant of North Swiftcurrent Glacier (no longer an active glacier, and now just scattered separated stagnant ice patches). The falls drop a total of 940 feet in two distinct tiers, the upper bubbling out of the talus along the moraine left behind by the glacier and tumbling about 300 feet in three parallel streams, an the lower spraying about 560 feet down a narrow cleft in the cliff face in a single stream, with the remaining 100 feet made up in talus cascades between the two tiers. Though the remnants of the North Swiftcurrent Glacier still fuel the falls, the quickly diminishing volume of ice available to feed the stream will result in the flow in the falls being dramatically reduced once the seasonal winter snow pack has melted off for the season. The falls may become entirely ephemeral in the not too distant future due to the continued rapid melt of what's left of the glacier.
