About This Waterfall
The Overlander Falls trailhead can be found approximately 2km east of the Kinney Lake Road in Mount Robson Provincial Park along the Yellowhead Highway. The trail drops easily to the viewpoint in 1/2 km.Overlander Falls is the largest waterfall on the Fraser River, dropping about 30 feet over a rather square, uniform ledge into a very large pool with enough force to produce an immense boil in the pool below the falls. Downstream from the falls the river constricts through a narrow gorge in stark contrast to the wide open space the pool below the falls establishes. The falls were named for the “overlanders”, prospectors who traveled down the Fraser River Valley to the Cariboo Mountains in the 1860s in search of gold.
