About This Spring

## Overview Ram Creek Hot Springs is one of British Columbia's most beloved backcountry soaking spots, tucked into the forested mountains near Skookumchuck in the East Kootenay region. Set along a rocky creek bed and surrounded by lush evergreen forest, the springs offer a truly immersive wilderness bathing experience — no fees, no facilities, just natural pools cradled by stone and fed by geothermally heated water. The hot springs consist of upper and lower pools, each with slightly different temperatures. The upper pools average around 88°F (31°C), while the lower pools run warmer at approximately 92°F (33°C) — comfortable enough for long, leisurely soaks. The pools are relatively shallow, with water levels generally reaching below neck height, making them accessible and relaxing for most visitors. The mineral-rich water has long attracted soakers looking for a natural, off-grid hot spring experience deep in the BC backcountry. ## Directions Ram Creek Hot Springs is located at GPS coordinates **50.033084, −115.6173054**, in the forests south of Whiteswan Lake Provincial Park. There are two primary routes to reach the springs: ### Route 1 — Via Whiteswan Lake Forest Service Road (from the north) 1. From Lussier River Forest Service Road South, proceed to **Whiteswan Lake Forest Service Road**. 2. Turn right onto **White Ram Forest Service Road** (also known as Ram Creek Road). 3. Follow this road approximately **6.8 miles (10.9 km)** to reach the hot springs area. ### Route 2 — Via Premier Lake Road (from the south) 1. From **Premier Lake Road**, turn onto **Ram Creek Forest Service Road**. 2. Follow the road until it ends; from there, a **1.9-mile (3 km) hike** is required to reach the springs. **Note:** Both routes use unpaved forest service roads that may be rough, narrow, or seasonally impassable. A high-clearance vehicle is strongly recommended, and 4WD may be necessary depending on conditions. Check local road reports before heading out, especially in spring and fall. ## What to Expect Ram Creek Hot Springs is a rustic, undeveloped site — there are no changing rooms, washrooms, or signage. The pools are natural rock formations along the creek, and the surrounding forest provides a stunning green canopy overhead. The setting feels remote and peaceful, making it a favorite among those who prefer their hot springs wild and uncrowded. The pools are warm enough to soak in comfortably for extended periods, and many visitors spend hours relaxing in the water while taking in the mountain scenery. Because the springs sit along a forest pathway, access is relatively straightforward once you've navigated the forest service roads and any required hiking. Visitors should be prepared for backcountry conditions: bring everything you need and pack out all trash. Cell service is unreliable in the area. The springs can be visited year-round, though winter access may be significantly more challenging due to snow on the forest service roads. Summer and early fall tend to offer the easiest access and the most pleasant conditions for soaking under the trees.
