About This Waterfall
Sæteigfossen can be easily seen from along the E134 about 1.3 kilometers west of the bridge over the Tuftaelva in Røldal. There is limited space to park so ensure you do not block any driveways when stopping to view the falls. This waterfall can be seen from the E134 near the town of Røldal. Fed by a small lake, the Sæteigbekken plunges and cascades approximately 255 meters (835 feet) down the mountainside before the stream cascades through a farm and into the lake in the valley below. The largest individual drop falls about 153 meters (500 feet), with the remainder split between a few smaller nearly vertical steps, and a series of cascades below the main fall. Because the drainage area for the stream is quite small, there is a chance this waterfall may run dry during periods of drought (which are quite rare in western Norway), though during the late summer and autumn months the volume will certainly be greatly reduced from that of the spring snow melt season.
