
About This Waterfall
Most frequently Silver Cord Cascade is cited as dropping 1,200 feet over the side of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone in a long, narrow stream of water. Topographic maps show this to be a physical impossibility - the elevation change between Ribbon Lake above the falls and the Yellowstone River at the floor of the canyon is barely more than 1,000 feet itself, and photographs of Silver Cord Cascade show it to drop at most two-thirds of the way down the side of the canyon and then tumble down through steep talus and boulders the remaining distance to the river below.
