About This Waterfall
The Lower Yellowstone Falls guards the beginning of the most spectacular section of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River with spectacular fervor. The falls drop 308 feet in a massive sheet of water, beginning 95 feet in width and then expanding outward on one side to stretch to over 150 feet in width about halfway down the falls. The large drainage basin of the Yellowstone River ensures a substantial volume of water present at the falls throughout the year, and the volume coupled with the significant height of the falls adds up to make this one of the most powerful waterfalls in the United States.
