Ancient Spring fed Hatherleigh, a small community. It still flows at 5-10 litres/min. It's possible that the town was built around this well-watered water source in Saxon times, or even earlier. You will also find 2 wells outside the town, St. John's Well at Hatherleigh Moor, as well as the less-known St. Mary's Well, which is located in woods a few miles to the west.
It used to have a water factory that bottled the water. The spring winds its way through the valley, passing by sacred and ancient rock. Watersmeet Car Park can be parked. From there, you can either walk down to the tearooms or continue downstream. The old factory is still standing and water is still flowing out. Alternativly, you can walk on the Myrtleberry-signaled path.
