About This Waterfall

The Third Beach trailhead is found along Highway 110 (La Push Road) about 12 miles from Highway 101 in Forks or about 2 miles east of La Push (the end of the road). Stay left at the major forks in the road, following signs for La Push and not for Mora. From the trailhead, the path leads an easy 1.3 miles to the beach. The falls are found at the south end of the beach about 1/2 mile away.Third Beach Falls is probably the most prominent of the few waterfalls in the state of Washington which drops directly into the ocean. The falls drop off a high bluff on the south end of Third Beach in Olympic National Park. Though the Olympic Peninsula is by far the wettest area in the state, due to the very small drainage area of the unnamed stream feeding the falls, it only flows for a few months out of the year - basically the rainy months - before running dry in the spring. If you can manage to visit while the falls are flowing, its a nice punctuation to the beach scene, but otherwise not really worth seeking out unless you are a die hard waterfaller. This waterfall has not been known to have a name, but A Waterfall Lover's Guide to the Pacific Northwest has consistently referred to it as Strawberry Bay Falls. I think Third Beach Falls is slightly more appropriate a name.
