About This Waterfall
This is one of at least two significant waterfalls along an unnamed stream which drains east off the southern end of Tatoosh Ridge and enters the Muddy Fork Cowlitz River at River Mile 134.6. The falls drop a total of 137 feet in two distinct steps. The upper tier slides and chutes down a horsetail style fall for 102 feet, then after a pause in a small pool the lower tier slides then plunges an additional 35 feet over a ledge with a convex shape such that the stream shoots out from the cliff face in a firehose fashion. The stream producing this waterfall drains an area encompassing approximately 0.55 square miles in area, and reaching an elevation of around 5400 feet. Despite the relatively high elevation and accompanying heavy snow pack, because of the narrow confines of the drainage the amount of snow which will melt to fuel the stream is not likely to be consequential outside of the April to July freshet season. There may be small springs or seeps which partially feed the stream at higher elevations, but there will not likely be appreciable flow present beyond the end of August, if not earlier.
