About This Waterfall

Wallalute Falls is the major waterfall along Compass Creek on the north side of Mount Hood. The USGS has mislabeled the falls as occurring along the Eliot Branch (the next drainage east) for several decades, apparently following the installation of a sign along the Cloud Cap Road identifying the falls from the Inspiration Point area.Wallalute Falls was thought to have been discovered by Will Langille and Will Graham in 1891 and officially named in 1893. The name was proposed by a resident of The Dalles named Ms. A. M. Lang. Wallalute is a Wasco Indian word which means "strong water".
