About This Waterfall

Located east of Detroit Lake along the Santiam Highway. From I-5 in Salem, follow Highway 22 east for about 58 miles to the Whispering Falls Campground. The falls are located across the North Santiam River from sites 12-15, towards the east end of the campground.Whispering Falls is the lackluster namesake of the Whispering Falls Campground along the banks of the North Santiam River. The falls skip about 40 feet down a mossy wall into a pile of rocks, before entering the river. Unfortunately, there is a small stand of alder trees right in front of the falls which obscures almost the entire cascade. Its quite visible in the winter and early spring, when the trees are bare, but in the summer, the falls are difficult to see both because of the trees and the depleted volume of Misery Creek. Best to leave this one to the dedicated waterfall-hounds.The falls were named because the roar of the North Santiam River drowns out the crash of the falls or because the falls make little noise as they drop towards the river, depending on what time of year you visit the site.
