About This Waterfall
Bulson Creek Falls is a low volume but rather significant waterfall set in the hills just east of Interstate 5 along the southern margin of the Skagit River Delta south of Mount Vernon. The falls plunge a nearly sheer 64 feet over an amphitheater-like sandstone cliff into a narrow gully framed with a surprisingly lengthy set of cliffs which guard the creek along the south side of the ravine. Bulson Creek is not at all a large stream, fed primarily by Sixteen Lake just a short distance upstream, and the small basin above it. Any snow which may fall here during the winter months will melt off quickly, so the stream will rely almost entirely on rainfall to persist through the year. This means that during the summer months the falls will likely run dry, or very close to dry, so the best time to visit is during the rainy season between November and May. The area around the falls is slowly being developed into home sites. Subdivision roads have been added since our initial survey in 2012 and it's becoming increasingly more and more likely that access to the falls may be in jeopardy. The waterfall itself appears to be located on private land, but there has not been any indication so far that access is not permitted. That said, we've opted to remove directions at this time in light of the continued development in the area. Should signs indicating that public access to the falls is no longer permitted appear along the road or trail, please be respectful and do not proceed to the falls.
