About This Waterfall

Eldest Stepsister Cascade is one of five ephemeral waterfalls which can be seen dropping into the Genesee River Gorge in the vicinity of the Great Bend within Letchworth State Park. The unnamed stream this fall occurs along cascades approximately 500 feet down the side of the gorge between the rim of the canyon and the Genesee River, however one meter resolution lidar data and aerial imagery indicate that the falls themselves only account for at most about 330 feet worth of that loss - for the remaining 170 feet the creek tumbles down a steep talus slope, and not over bedrock. The falls are insignificant in stature due to their limited flow and drainage size, only flowing during periods of heavy precipitation or during snow melt.
