About This Waterfall
Marcus Falls is accessible from the Bailey's Chute trailhead in Wells Gray Provincial Park, found 56.5 km (35 mi) north of Highway 5 along the Clearwater Valley Road. The falls an easy 1km walk from the trailhead.Marcus Falls is the second of three major waterfalls along the Clearwater River between Clearwater Lake and Helmcken Canyon. Here the Clearwater River churns over a fairly abrupt 15 foot ledge - in many places like Baileys Chute, maintaining a solid green tongue of unaerated water from top to bottom. While Bailey's is much more powerful, Marcus Falls stands out because of its 350 foot width. The falls are named for Marcus Smith, a surveyor who worked for the Canadian Pacific Railroad in the 1870s.
