About This Waterfall

Sticta Falls are reached by hiking 1/2 kilometer up the Kostal Lake / Dragons Tongue Trail from the bridge over Falls Creek at Clearwater Lake, found near the end of the Clearwater Valley Road in Wells Gray Provincial Park.Sticta Falls is a very pretty 30 foot waterfall along Falls Creek near the campgrounds at the end of the Clearwater Valley Road in Wells Gray Provincial Park. Falls Creek twists through a gorge lined with basalt, then the bedrock transitions suddenly to a sedimentary structure where the creek has eaten away and formed a three-stepped fall amid interesting stratified formations. Upstream from the bridge near the falls, the base of the Dragons Tongue lava flow is visible, with more extensive vistas available about ½ kilometer further up the trail. This basalt originated from the nearby Kostal Lake Volcano and was also responsible for the damming of the Clearwater River and the formation of both Falls Creek Falls and Osprey Falls, both found downstream.
