About This Waterfall
The Mehatl Falls trailhead is found at the 48km mark along the Nahatlatch River FSR near Boston Bar. The vast majority of the road is unpaved and though it is driveable in 2wd vehicles for the entire distance, there are a handful of rough patches which will test your nerves.Mehatl Falls is a massive complex cascading waterfall located within one of British Columbia's most undeveloped Provincial Parks. The Mehatl Falls trail is the only developed trail within the park, ending at the bottom of the larger section of the falls. The 100 foot falls consist of two distinct sections. The lower is a 19-foot tall sliding chute that punches into a large blue pool. Approximately 200 feet upstream is the larger section, a twisting segmented cascade which drops 81 feet in all. The upper section begins by sliding over small steps, then the creek splits into two channels. The left channel slides down a pitched section of bedrock for its whole descent, forming a large roostertail halfway down. The righthand channel drops into a boulder-choked sluice of potholes, seemingly flowing every possible direction. Because of the large drainage area which Mehatl Creek spans, the volume of water in this fall is quite high and can be absolutely staggering during the spring freshet.
